Recognising the pivotal role of NDT in various sectors, including advanced manufacturing, critical infrastructure construction, and the expansive oil and gas industry, Malaysia has made substantial investments in developing its expertise and capabilities in this specialised field. NDT techniques, particularly those utilising nuclear science, such as industrial radiography using gamma rays or X-rays, allow for the thorough inspection of materials and complex components without causing any physical damage. This capability is crucial for identifying internal defects, assessing structural integrity under operational conditions, and rigorously ensuring compliance with stringent quality and safety standards. By detecting flaws that are invisible to the naked eye, industries can significantly improve product reliability, minimise costly maintenance and downtime, and prevent potentially catastrophic failures. Furthermore, the use of neutron radiography allows for the inspection of materials that are difficult to penetrate with traditional X-rays, providing valuable insights into the internal structure of complex assemblies.
