The electron beam technology works by accelerating electrons to interact with DNA and RNA molecules in the water, effectively killing microorganisms and destroying viruses, including the coronavirus that causes COVID-19. This process also breaks down antibiotics, something that conventional sterilisation methods cannot achieve. Unlike traditional methods that rely on chemical disinfectants like sodium hypochlorite, the electron beam system avoids the production of harmful chemical residues and operates at room temperature, minimising energy consumption. This pilot-scale facility can treat 400 cubic meters of medical wastewater per day, demonstrating the potential of electron beam technology for widespread application in medical wastewater treatment. The treated wastewater exceeds China’s standards for disposal by infectious disease hospitals, protecting public health and the environment.
